I attended Inverclyde Royal Infirmary for the very first time for a Urology Outpatients appointment. I found there was plenty of parking available and located waiting area 2 after reporting to the main reception desk.
There was ample seating in the waiting area and within minutes of my arrival the Consultant called me into his room.
I had to have an examination of my groin area and this required the removal of my trousers and underwear, I was asked to lie down on an examination table for this to be carried out. Any other time I've had to have any type of examination that required me to lie or sit on an examination couch, the couch vinyl top and head pillow were protected by paper toweling to prevent my body touching the surfaces. However on this occasion I had to lie on the bare surfaces which may have been used by the previous patient.
There was only myself and the consultant in the room at the time and after the consultation and I was back in the corridor the consultant called for the next patient to enter the same room as I was standing there.
If the new patient was required to use that examination couch, presumably no one had wiped it down in between patients.
I just felt this was very poor infection control and totally unhygienic for myself and anyone else having to use this examination couch.
"Totally unhygienic"
