"Discharge prescriptions from hospital"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Medical Oncology

(as a relative),

I attended Wishaw General Hospital to pick up my brother-in-law who was being discharged after being told he had terminal pancreatic cancer.

The nurse had packed his belongings, placed them on the window sill ready to be lifted. We (the patient, his wife and myself ) waited 3 hours for prescription items to be delivered to the ward before we could leave.

I feel this is unacceptable for any patient but especially someone who had been given such bad news.

Apparently this is not uncommon for any person being discharged who require prescriptions... but surely this is a form of bed blocking!

Dear keen gardener,

Thank you for sharing your feedback about University Hospital Wishaw, Medical Oncology.

I am sorry to hear of your brother in laws diagnosis. This must be a very difficult time for you all. I am sorry to learn that although his belongings were ready for you to take him home, you had to wait for his prescriptions to come from the pharmacy and that this took 3 hours. I can only imagine how difficult this would have been given the information he will have just been given.

So that we can investigate this further, please can I ask that you get in touch with our Patient Affairs team who will be able to provide a personal response.
