"Lack of communication between various professionals"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical) Victoria Hospital / Out of Hours

(as a service user),

Firstly I must commend the NHS 24 team.

My initial contact person was absolutely fantastic.

The clinician I then spoke to, also fantastic.

The doctor I saw at my emergency OOH appointment was outstanding !!!! She was very thorough and due to this she clearly had a good idea as to what my illness was being caused by.

I was, as it turns out, seriously ill. I have severe pneumonia both lungs. My O2 level was 86. I had a temperature and my BP was low.

The doctor at OOH should be commended in her professionalism and made aware of this post.

Sadly upon admission to admissions 1, the treatment deteriorated greatly.

To me there seemed to be a major lack of communication between various professionals.

There was one staff member who wiped quite a lot of blood of the floor in my bay and left the bloodied tissues lying on the floor!

I was later placed on a commode and left there. The curtain was open around 4 feet and visitors were in at the patient next door. They never returned. I informed a staff member who was lovely but I didn't feel they took particular notice of my complaint unfortunately.

Once again though I have very high praise for all individuals involved in my admission to hospital. They all did a fantastic job

Dear unwell person,

Thank you for raising your concerns about communication and please accept my apologies for this - I am sure a member of the acute team will be in touch to discuss this.

I work for urgent care and understand how meaningful good feedback is - I would be happy to pass on your comments to our clinician as you suggested. If you can email me with a date and a rough time you were seen I will identify who you saw. My email address is Veronica.Hill2@nhs.scot. Thank you again, I hope you are well on the road to recovery now.

Dear Unwell person,

I am pleased to hear about the positive experience you had with the out of hours services.

As the senior charge nurse of admissions unit one I am very sorry to hear of the care you received whilst in the ward.

We understand the importance of maintaining patient privacy and dignity, and strive to maintain this at all times. I am very sorry that the care you received fell far below the standard we would have expected.

We also take the cleaning up of bodily fluid very seriously. I will feed this back to staff and ensure they understand the correct process moving forward.

Kind regards,

Christina
