I finally went to the hospital to sort out my left wrist which failed to heal by itself.
I fell down on the pavement just a week before Christmas. The swelling had subsided but the sharp pain in one location just below the thump refused to heal. I went to the walk in centre at Finchley Memorial.
The hospital was an oasis of calm and the walk in centre was not busy. I was checked in, being the only one in the queue. A few minutes of wait in the main waiting area and I was called to the first nurse who took down details and examined the wrist. Concluded that I need x-rays and gave me a form and told me to go to the x-ray reception just across the foyer. Again there was no queue and I was checked in by a lady called Ranajana.
A short wait in the waiting area in front of the x-ray reception and I was directed to the x-ray room down the corridor. I did manage to use the loo as well. The x-ray operative was a nice sympathetic lady from Africa, she was very polite and reminded me of time I spent there. I quick five x-rays later I was back in the waiting area for the next call.
It came soon enough and a nurse took to me to her allocated room. She asked the history of the accident and examined me and then looked at the x-rays on her computer screen. Very knowledgeable on the wrist, she was. The x-ray did not show clear evidence of a fracture, but the small bone concerned showed a very faint, almost indiscernible, line which looked like a (hairline) fracture. Rather inconclusive, but I had trust in her judgement.
She made a decision to apply a cast and went out to get things required. The cast comes in the form of a impregnated piece of (gauze) which she soaked in warm water and put on the arm below the elbow and up to the wrist, but only on the top side. It stiffened and started to set immediately. To completely set, it took up to half an hour. She also gave me a nice sling to wear. I am diligently wearing the sling.
