"All the staff couldn't be more helpful"

About: Maternity care / Maternity Ward Victoria Hospital / Neonatal Unit

(as the patient),

It still feels like a dream, from my induction to my discharge.

I birthed my son very early morning and within 12h your amazing staff noticed he wasn't quite right. After being thorough and checking my notes they realised I had StrepB show up on a thrush test that had been missed resulting in a birth without antibiotics. These ladies swing into action it was all a major blur and I cannot remember their names and got my boy admitted, treatment started until they got his bloods back for his infection rates.

Once I was settled on the ward and my boy was settled downstairs I was able to come and go as much as I pleased. This place is very daunting but once again every little hero wearing their ppe made me feel so comfortable and reassured that I had to rest and that they were there for me, would call up for me and vice versa.

Once my little man made it upto the ward beside me all staff from cleaning to doctors couldn't be more helpful and Once again made sure my mental health was okay.

My only fault I had was the being told I was going home off staff to be told by doctors it was not indeed time to go home. We were on the board twice for going home after that and the joy was ripped from my heart(I know my baby was needing to be there to be safe and cared for but we had a big sissy at home struggling). Over all I cannot thank you all enough ❤️

Hi October mama,

Congratulations on the birth of your son. I am so sorry you had to go through all that and be separated from you baby whilst he was in the neonatal unit. I hope all is well now and he his happy and thriving.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and expressing the positives through what must have been a stressful time.

If you would like to discuss the origin of the initial miss of the Group B Strep on swab or the conflicting information from the NNU regarding you going home please feel free to contact me to explore further. Similarly I can share your feedback around the conflicting information to the NNU manager also. I will leave my email address at the bottom.

I will share your kind message with the teams, they are always grateful for all and any feedback.

Take care

Pamela Higgins
