The surgeon and his team were fantastic. Kept me well informed. Visited before and after surgery.
The dental team were also fantastic.
My son was well looked after.
Mixed messages on the pre meds for my son, even though it would have been in his notes that he would not take the drink. I had to try and force him to drink. He then got sleepy but the wait was too long and he became awake again and needed the injection to his thigh. If this was an option i was told about i would not have forced my son the drink which distressed him.
When my son came back from theatre a nurse said he looked ok to get ready to go home. I didn't think he was. He was then sick and i was told he couldn't go home yet but because my son thought he was going home he became distressed again.
Nurses kept asking if he could drink and eat before leaving but after having the "horrible" drink earlier my son refused. He also had 8 teeth removed so there was no way he was eating anything.
All my son's needs were explained at the pre assessment. He is autistic and is very specific with his eating habits and needs.
I feel staff should be aware and not constantly ask the same questions i.e will he eat a yoghurt...... no he will only eat a certain brand..... to then be asked another 3 times the same question. It becomes very distressing as a parent.
