"Ward A8 and general outpatients appointments"

About: Peterborough City Hospital

I am a carer for a relative who have had the unfortunate experience of staff on ward A8 where was admitted and had a short stay. I would not recommend this ward. Right from the start the staff placed him in a bed n the corridor where he was ignored, no privacy or care given. Once in a bay when I came to visit the staff on shift were rude, dismissive and short, more interested in talking about their ward manager and how they feel they can't approach to talk with her as she shuts them down and creates an unhealthy place to work. This was effecting patient care. I thought it was just this ward but when we have been to an outpatient appointment for something completely different staff there looked miserable too. The ladies in the blood room were lovely but the lady with a scarf covering her head looked as though she didn't want to be there, shouted his name and was abrupt. Not a good reflection on the department. Sort yourself out both A8 and outpatients. No wonder we are feeling disillusioned about the care we receive when faced with this. We all have bad days but clearly a hospital issue that goes higher up if both areas have issues.

Thank you for bringing your concerns regarding your recent inpatient stay on Ward A8 to our attention. We sincerely apologise for the discomfort you experienced due to being placed in the corridor.

We understand this is far from ideal and falls short of the standard of care we strive to provide. While the current pressures on the NHS necessitate difficult decisions like "boarding" patients, we acknowledge that this compromises patient privacy and comfort.

Your feedback regarding the lack of privacy, despite the provision of screens, is valuable and will be used to inform our ongoing efforts to improve patient experience. I am also addressing your concerns regarding staff attitude. While we typically receive positive feedback for Ward A8, your comments are taken seriously.

I will be personally discussing this with the ward staff and the Ward Manager to ensure we are addressing any potential issues impacting patient care. We appreciate your understanding of the current pressures faced by the NHS, but we remain committed to providing the best possible care, and your feedback is crucial in helping us achieve this goal.

Kind regards

I am sorry to hear about your poor experience in the General Outpatients Department, Peterborough City Hospital.

As the Sister for General Outpatients, as a result of this feedback, I will be speaking with the team in order to reinforce the expected behaviours that support our values in the department and Trust and reminding the team of expectations relating to our Personal Responsibility Framework.

Please be assured that I will be following this up with all staff who work in the Phlebotomy Room and in the department.

Kind regards

General Outpatients Sister
