"My time in hospital"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Acute Medical Unit (Ward 2) Royal Alexandra Hospital / General Medicine (Wards 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 18 & 27) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Medical Assessment Unit (MAU)

(as the patient),

I was in amu ward 2 in the Royal Alexandra Hospital and was transfered to the day unit after a few hours as they needed bed space. This felt like an absolute shambles it was not cleaned bins were not emptied my bed was not changed nor was I asked if I wanted it changed for 3 days.

The staff were fantastic but It felt like I was in a and e it was basicly just a bay I was in and also I have egg and peanut allergies and could hardly eat and wasn't offered any allergy free meals.

I understand and completely sympathise with the staff as the hospital is at capacity.

I was then on Ward 27 where I would like to thank all the staff for all there help. I was in severe pain and the ward was extremely busy with emergencies from other patients yet they still made a point of helping me and caring for me exceptionally. I got medication on time and as my mental health was terrible, staff helped calm me down. I would love to thank all of them they deserve all the praise in the world God bless and thank you again. The auxiliaries were fantastic at keeping me at ease and helping me with my anxiety showing me how to stay calm and use breathing exercises. If all nurses were like this hospitals would be perfect and run so much smoother. I would appreciate if this feedback could get back to senior staff and they can get a pat on the back many thanks again.

The nurses in Ward 1 also helped me so much as I have extremely bad anxiety. They deserve a lot of recognition for their work. They are fantastic nurses in catering to any and all of my needs. They went above and beyond in caring for me and I greatly appreciate it- thank you so much you both made me feel a little better and very much at ease due to my anxiety.

Dear Raiden1991

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

We are sorry to hear that your bed was not changed, and bins were not emptied. We apologise that you were not offered allergy-free meals. This will be discussed with our Facilities Team.

On a positive note, we are delighted to hear about your experiences in Ward 27 and Ward 1 (Medical Assessment Unit). It is heartening to know that despite the busy environment, the staff went above and beyond to care for you and manage your pain and anxiety. Your kind words about the nurses and auxiliaries will be passed on to the staff.

Thank you once again for your feedback and for highlighting both the areas that need improvement and those where our staff excelled.

I hope you are feeling better.

Nicole
