"I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff I encountered"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Day Case unit

I attended the Day Case Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital for hand surgery just over a week ago (early Jan) and would like to share my experience! In today’s world we hear lots of negative stories about the NHS, but I have nothing but praise for every member of staff I was in contact with that day.

From the minute I walked into the unit I was treated with the upmost care & respect. The two members of staff on Reception were so friendly & welcoming - immediately putting me at ease. The lovely nurse who carried out all my pre-op checks was also really friendly. During the morning while waiting for my surgery I was visited by the consultant, the anaesthetist and a number of other medical staff who kept me informed about every aspect of my planned procedure. On arrival to the theatre I was met with these same medical staff (& a few others) and once again I was talked to & put at ease. Post surgery I awoke to a new batch of staff who were every bit as caring & considerate - even bringing me the very welcome tea & toast!!! 

I cannot speak highly enough of all the staff I encountered on my visit to the Day Case Unit in Altnagelvin that day and would like to say a huge thank you to each & every one of you 🥰🥰

Coordinate the smooth running of orthopaedic surgical lists in a busy Day case Unit delegating staff to ensure the care given to patients is of the highest possible standards.

Hi triangulumbf95, first of all I hope you are recovering well from your surgery. It is lovely to hear positive feedback from our patients who come through Day Case,I am very pleased to hear you had a pleasant perioperative journey. I will pass on your kind feedback to all our staff from reception recovery and in theatre. We always work hard to ensure care is of the highest standards and it is when patients give feedback that we can assess what we are doing well and what can be improved.
