"My trip to A&E"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

For a couple of days I'd had a headache with weird visual things going on in my eyes, so (following advice from a 111 call) I spent 7hrs in SMH A&E/SDEC having various questions/blood tests/ECG etc to eliminate the nasties (eg stroke). Once the tests had been done they sent me for a CT scan of my head, to be sure there was nothing that had been missed (there wasn't). I was diagnosed with migraine and given a prescription for the appropriate medication, to take as needed.

I just want to say that everyone I was in contact with was brilliant - very thorough and unfailingly kind and friendly. They were very apologetic for all the waiting around and thanked us for our patience! At regular intervals two of the nurses/doctors(?) stopped to reassure me that things were happening (Pedro and Emily, I think), and the consultant (a lovely lady whose name I can't remember, sorry) stopped as she was yet again rushing by to somewhere, to check I was okay and assure me that things were happening on my behalf in the background.

All this great treatment in a very busy department is to be commended. Thoroughly impressed with SMH.
