"I find this treatment unacceptable"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

I attended the out of hours GP in December with pain in my left side. They tested my urine and found blood, so said obs suggest a kidney infection. She spoke to urology at RAH who said I could get a scan at IRH to check for kidney stones.

Waited for doctor whose opening response was to ask, could you not have went to Paisley, as they hadn't had their lunch yet.

Not a great opening line, and then they told me I needed a cannula - I told them my anxieties surrounding this and was told it needed done, so I may as well get it over and done with.

For 5 minutes they tried and failed to get the cannula in, with me passing out 3 times and my husband having to hold me up, however they continued. Then stopped and told me I was making it harder for myself and didn't even manage to get blood.

I felt sick and went outside for fresh air. I returned and the doctor said they would take bloods, at this point a nurse had came to do my obs and I asked if the nurse could take bloods instead. I have had 2 babies and nurses or midwives have never had issues getting blood from me.

At this point the staff member took offence and stormed out the room and swore.

I raised this complaint, but have been told there is no evidence, as the incident isn't in my notes. It was the staff member concerned who wrote the notes so of course this wouldn't be included.

I am disgusted and find this treatment completely unacceptable.
