"Appointment at urology clinic"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

Arrived at 11.15 for 11.30 appointment eventually taken at 12.30 by the doctor, who I made it plain to that I was not happy with the 1 hour wait!

The doctor began by asking me what the surgeon had said. I told them I was not having an operation and to read their notes! The doctor explained to me various things re future treatment, I told them I had read the booklet Radiotherapy for Prostrate Cancer. They explained what I had already read about re future treatment.

I questioned whether Stereotactic body radiation therapy might be a possible alternative. They did not think so and checked with the consultant who said not in my case as I was T3. Because I had been so annoyed at my long wait I then decided not to take a decision about proceeding with 4 weeks of radiotherapy with prior markers and CT scan, but rather think about it. I was in the mind of not having radiotherapy at all, having not been impressed by this appointment at all.

Instead I said I would wait till after my next hormone jag and PSA score, and asked for another appointment therefore to be set up, at which point I would then make my decision either to have any radiotherapy or not!

Thank you for getting in touch to discuss your experience at your recent out-patient appointment at QMH. I have looked into your concerns about the clinic running late and it was due to unforeseen circumstances. If clinics are running late, an approximately time of the delay is displayed on the information board and nursing staff inform the patients. Please accept my apologies if this was not clearly communicated at the time.

I telephoned you this morning to give you an update so please get in touch if you wish to discuss this further.

Kind regards

Pauline
