Recently I was transferred to Aberdeen Maternity Hospital for a complicated delivery of my first child. Following delivery my baby had some raised blood levels and some reduced blood levels. Paediatricians were very good at assessing him and making sure we knew when retests would happen and why.
Once his sugars started to normalise he became jaundiced and required phototherapy which he found very distressing. He required two days of phototherapy before it would be considered if he could return home. The Paediatrician on nightshift had a very busy night of complex deliveries but made time to come and see me at 4am to explain fully my baby's blood test results and make sure I understood the plan for his phototherapy.
On the final two days of our inpatient stay at Aberdeen the Paediatrician on day shift, Dr Charlotte, went above and beyond to not only ensure all investigations were covered but also to do everything possible to make sure we could get home. We felt very reassured by her manner with us and her being so thorough even if it meant delaying us returning home. We cannot thank her enough for her care and attention towards our baby.
