"Thank you so much for all your hard work your dedication"

About: Older People’s Services / Hospital at Home Southern Sector South West Acute Hospital / Emergency Care and Medicine Services

(as a relative),

My mum who has COPD and respitory problems and had recently finished Radiotherapy (about 6 weeks) ended up with viral flue A at Christmas. She was so ill and in her 79 years had never had a reason to go to and stay in the ED. We were expecting a long wait and truthfully a miserable time, my mum was triaged and seen within 40 mins.

The treatment my mum received was second to none x-rayed, ct scanned blood work and every test needed. It was decided my mum would be treated at home using the hospital at home service, amazing, 2 nurses 3 times a day times 8oclock am, 2oclock pm and 8 o'clock pm, the nurses were spot on time, everytime, they were absolutely  wonderful, they were so gentle and caring, there was nothing they wouldn't have done to help. They were patient and took time to explain everything that was happening not just to my mum but to myself and sister.

My mum is on the mend we were told it would take time for mum to get back to her original self and it has but she is so much better, the care and attention she was given was and is so appreciated even wen she was discharged they kept in touch the nursed set up aftercare including respiratory physio.

With all the problems the NHS has and all the negative stories. I wanted to write this wee bit just to say thank you to SWAH especially the nurses and carers who looked after my mum and me and my sister, and anyone else who was involved in setting up this service for her, you are all so appreciated and really the hero's of our community, again thank you so much for all your hard work your dedication, and most of all the care and dignity you treated my mum with.

Dear woodpigeonnp57

as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner, based within the ED at the SWAH, I would like to take this opportunity, to respond to your post on the Care Opinion medium on behalf of ED, about your recent experiences, while using our service.

I am sorry to read about your mothers recent bout of ill health, and the need to require a hospital visit. It fills with a great deal of pride to read, how efficiently your mother was treated, and with a high level of care and dignity shown to her, yourself and your sister, in her hour of need.

We do have a process in place, whereby all staff will be made aware of your comments, and I would once again to thank you for taking the time to post.

Finally, I hope this response finds everybody in your family well.

Kind regards

John Kerr
