I want to comment on the excellent care given to my wife recently at St Johns hospital, Livingstone.
Our daughter was delivered by emergency c-section due to evolving complications.
Although a worrying time, the midwives, doctors, anaesthetic team, theatre staff and auxiliary staff were superb. Communication was flowing and honest, which was needed at a difficult time.
The operation and post op care was incredibly skilful, professional and patient centred.
My wife was admitted with sepsis due to pyelonephritis 2 weeks post delivery and once again there was a rapid response which led to her recovering well to get home to her family.
As a health care professional I know the strain on the NHS currently and hear so many negative comments. It is vital to highlight the good work done, which is the overwhelming majority of care delivered. The labour suite and ward 11 at St John’s delivered life saving care on 2 occasions within 2 weeks for our family and I will always be grateful for this.
In addition, I was able to use the adapted theatre scrubs designed on site. This allowed skin to skin contact in theatre with my daughter without me having to remove my top. She was feeding and warm within minutes, a moment I will treasure always. These tops should be available across the NHS- great idea!
