"My daughters treatment in ED"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Paediatric Assessment Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter sustained a head injury recently and needed to go to the emergency department. From the minute I arrived the service was incredible.

Firstly the security guard met us at the entrance and showed us where to go and took us personally round to the paediatric section.

Once admitted all the paediatric staff were great in how they spoke to both myself but also my 4 year old making her feel important and involved in her care. She needed the max fax specialist to treat her wound.

It was an awful experience for her to go through and for myself to watch her go through the pain but the doctor was incredible with her trying to distract her and keep her as happy as possible and has done an amazing job at closing her wound.

After the treatment the nursing staff made a big fuss of how brave she had done and how good it now looked which helped cheer her up, overall all the staff were just incredible.

Dear Cornwall mum

Thank you for taking the time to share your story with us. I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you on here.

I am pleased to read that you had such a positive experience during a worrying time for you and your daughter. I am pleased that the security team were so helpful and took directly to the paediatric emergency area.

It is great to see that the staff supported you so well as a mother as well as ensuring your daughter felt important and involved.

It really must have been an awful experience during the treatment but it is lovely to read that the doctor put a lot of effort in to distract your daughter from what was happening as well as the staff making a big fuss of her afterwards.

I am writing to you as a member of the Patient Experience team but, I will ensure that your kind words are forwarded over to the Paediatric Assessment Unit team.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to share your story with us. I do hope that your daughter is recovering well.

Best wishes

Megan
