My baby boy made a very quick and shocking entrance into the world 9 weeks early. The paramedics that arrived to my house very promptly were very calm, professional and reassuring and were able to deliver me IVF and got me to Craigavon Area Hospital straight away. The staff liaised with the hospital so the hospital were able to prepare for my arrival.
On reflection the only negative comment I can make is that my baby was not able to be monitored in the ambulance. I was heavily bleeding and no one was able to check the baby's heart rate or check the baby was ok. Therefore I had to wait to arrival to CAH (approx 30-40 mins later) to have the baby's heart rate checked. This was a very frightening experience.
This is not a criticism to the staff but to the resources provided to them, as the paramedic staff had no resources to allow them to do so. In my opinion, paramedics could be attending any maternity emergencies and this is a vital part of equipment they should be able to avail of.
"Lack of resources for staff"
