I had previously been seen at the Breast Clinic by a lovely consultant, who had advised a treatment plan and then a follow up appointment. She had advised if my issue hadn't resolved then to attend the appointment.
I attended my follow up appointment in mid-January. I was greeted by a lovely nurse specialist called Rachel, she asked to examine me and agreed that the initial problem should have resolved after the plan the consultant had put in place.
She then explained that there was an option to obtain a skin biopsy and escalate my problem and clarified this with the same consultant, who happened to be in the department that day.
I was extremely nervous about this, being a staff nurse myself and I am very rarely a patient, I started to become really anxious. Rachel discussed every step with me and what it would entail. She asked would I like to go ahead with the biopsy and I gave consent. A really nice HCSW, called Julie came into assist and was so reassuring throughout the procedure. She even offered me her hand to hold, which was nice considering I was so nervous and had never experienced anything like this before.
The procedure didn't take very long at all. I was given instructions on what to expect post procedure and to rest etc.
As previously stated, I am so used to being the nurse and not the patient. However I was made to feel really comfortable and remained calm.
Thanks again!
"Excellent care and attention"
