About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

When someone who is critical ill and are staying over night should be allowed someone to stay with them as this is very distressing time for them. When we asked the Nurse on the ward if it would be possible if someone could stay we were told that none is allowed to stay with a patient. we really wanted someone to stay with my aunt but was told that they should go home. this is someone who is scared that something is going to happen when in hospital. I also witnessed another patient and a member of staff having very loud discussion with the patient I felt that this was not fair on the patient or anyone ells that was in the ward I felt that it was braking confidentiality and that if anything discussions about patients should be kept in a low voice so others would not have to hear. When visiting a ward that was moving so that it was to be cleaned we were told that my aunt would be the last to go as she was very ill a few minutes later we were then told that she was going to be moved now. we told the nurse that we were told that we were going to be moved after everyone else was moved and that my aunt is not in a fit state to move she then went to find someone to talk about this. we then tried to find out what was happening it was very difficult we waited a long time to know what was happening and was told someone would come and tell us what was happening. we were not in a very good state.

Thank you for commenting. It sounds like we could learn a lot from your observations but to make the most of what you have told us we really need to know which areas of the hospital you are talking about. Would it be possible for you to either comment on here again with a little more information or alternatively please contact PALS via pals@addenbrookes.nhs.uk
