"Chaotic A&E department"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

My wife was admitted to A&E more than 24 hours ago, after being sent from Chace Farm Urgent Care, and has still not been assigned a bed (having to beg to even receive a chair in the waiting area which can even recline). She has received no more than some IV drips even though the triage doctors were extremely concerned about potential damage to her liver due to what looks to be a virus which has severely impacted her (but has still not been confirmed more than 24 hours after she was admitted), and scans that she was advised she needed urgently on her kidneys and liver have still not been undertaken more than 12 hours after told.

It's understandable that there is currently a high stress on A&E services, but that doesn't excuse very ill patients who have been admitted not receiving the urgent care they require (my wife doesn't seem to be the only example), or even to be put into a position to be made comfortable, which would seem to be a minimum requirement for patients to not deteriorate, let alone recover.

Dear Simon,

We thank you very much for your feedback & we are sorry to hear of your wife's experience. If you would like to provide patient information, kindly contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) via email. Their address is northmid.pals@nhs.net

PALS can then share the concerns with the department/clinic concerned for them to investigate further and contact you to discuss.

Kind regards, Patient Experience Team
