"Midwife made me feel safe and in good hands"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Lothian Birth Centre

(as the patient),

I arrived at triage, I was seen by a midwife then examined and taken immediately to the Lothian Birth Centre.

My experience in triage was frustrating and the midwife I saw had no sense of urgency (I was fully dilated arriving into triage and gave birth within 25 minutes of arriving at the hospital). Her lack of urgency and poor bedside manner gave me anxiety.

My experience in the Lothian Birth Centre was AMAZING! I couldn't believe how quickly the midwives jumped into action especially since it was coming up to the end of their shift.

The midwife that delivered my baby, Kirsty, was incredible. She made me feel at such ease and was immediately trustworthy. I felt really safe and in good hands at the Lothian Birth Centre. Had such a positive experience!

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are so pleased to hear that your experience at the Lothian Birth Centre was positive and that you felt safe and well-cared for during the delivery of your baby. Kirsty and the rest of the team will be delighted to know that their efforts helped make your experience a positive one, especially given the circumstances.

We are, however, sorry to hear that your experience in triage did not meet your expectations. We understand how stressful and overwhelming the situation must have been, and it is concerning to hear that you felt the midwife you saw did not demonstrate the urgency you needed at that time. We take your comments seriously, and we will ensure they are shared with the triage team to review and address the situation, so that we can continue to improve the care we provide.

Thank you again for your feedback. We wish you and your baby all the best moving forward and appreciate the opportunity to learn from your experience.

Kind Regards

Katy Ruggeri
