"Appointments aren't offered after 16:00"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as a service user),

My son called the surgery for an appointment after his work. The receptionist told him that they don't do appointments after 16:00. When he asked what happens to people like him who work, he was told he would need to make time. He asked if he would need to go to the hospital and was told no, because he had been offered an appointment albeit not one that suited him.

He felt that the receptionist was rude so he googled the practice information and called the surgery back and asked to speak to a member of management staff. He was put through to a staff member who demanded where he got their name from and when he told them he googled the information, they didn't seem too happy. My son explained the situation and how he felt that the receptionist was rude. He was told that if they had to cater to everyone the G.P's would need to be there 24hrs a day. He was then miraculously offered an appointment for 16:30 that day. We still don't know why appointments aren't offered after 16:00 despite the surgery being open till 18:00.

Dear Rosie Posie 58,

Thank you for sharing your son's experience trying to get an appointment with his GP.

I am sorry to hear that the reception staff and management staff were rude and abrupt with your son. This is disappointing to hear.

GP surgeries are independent contractors and as such, are not registered to respond on Care Opinion but are responsible for investigating any feedback or concerns about their service. Please could I ask that he contact the practice manager so they can investigate his concerns and provide a personal response.

Kind Regards,

Jenni

Hi Jenni

Thank you for your response I don't think he will contact the practice manager because of the response he got from the assistant manager but I will certainly contact her

Thank you once again

Rosie
