"They wouldn't work on my braces again"

About: Dundee Dental Hospital / Orthodontics

(as the patient),

I before hand have been waiting about 8 years for braces. Was so happy to finally have them. But since getting new dentists working on my teeth the experience changed. I had to travel from work down to appointments meaning I was on the odd occasion a few mins late.

I couldn’t help this as I do not drive and can’t cancel work a few times I went in a few minutes late I just got spoken to like I was a child. I got told that I was wasting their time even when explaining work and bus situation. I was still told it was my fault. Then got put to a higher-up dentist so if I was late they were dealing with me which I felt was quite rude to say. I happened to be a few minutes late one other time and I was threatened that if I was even one minute late to one more appointment they were going to remove my braces and I would never get them again. When I really do need them.

I haven’t been back since because I couldn’t handle feeling upset and feeling like every time I went I was scared they were just going to speak to me horribly. I understand they have time for people but it can’t be helped someone has to travel by bus and have work. I’ve been wanting to go back to get my braces tightened and continued but I was told because I didn't want to go back after what I had experienced that was final - they wouldn’t work on my braces again. I was told just to go to a dentist and get them taken off.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide this feedback. I am sorry that you appear to be experiencing difficulties in terms of the management of your Orthodontic treatment. It is important as part of our service delivery and patient care that none of our service users are experiencing what you describe. In order for me to fully investigate the concerns that you have raised I would be grateful if you could contact me on wendy.roud@nhs.scot or on 01382-740984 where we can discuss in full and I can get some additional details. I will do my best to resolve the difficulties you are experiencing and hopefully we can get your treatment back on course and complete your Orthodontic treatment.
