On Christmas morning, I took my dog for a walk. A couple of children dressed up in full army fatigue sprang out from behind a tree and spooked my dog, who ran into me knocking me over. I knew immediately that I had damaged my hip, but hoped it was just dislocated.
A very uncomfortable drive by my son to The Edinburgh Royal Infirmary that the top of my femur was broken.
I was seen by a number of staff, who were all incredibly kind, attentive, knowledgeable and professional.
It was rather surreal, as most of them were dressed up in various Christmas outfits!
After a while, I was taken to the ward, where my wonderful care continued.
I had to wait a couple of days for my operation, but was kept informed and comfortable throughout this period.
My operation went smoothly and after a couple of days, I was discharged.
Throughout my stay, the staff, without exception, were incredible.
There were some difficult patients who they treated with patience and kindness.
From my arrival to my leaving, my care was exemplary.
"My operation went smoothly"
