I recently attended the day surgery unit at Crosshouse for a scheduled hysterectomy. From the minute I entered the unit, staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Once taken through to the department and introduced to the care team, I felt confident I was in safe, reassuring hands. I have particularly anxiety around medical environments, however staff were aware and respectful of this and the reasons for this too. All staff that I interacted with were fantastic and I'm so grateful to them all for their care and compassion. They helped me feel relaxed and at ease and gave me lots of strength to get through the really difficult parts. I'd like to specifically thank the anaesthetist for his support and understanding. I know he had a significant impact on helping me remain calm, especially when going into theatre. I'm so sorry I can't recall any names, but I know he had a positive impact on the ward last month. Everyone was very kind and upbeat which really helped lift spirits in a groggy recovery room (not to imply it was dirty, just groggy from coming round from surgery). Thank you all for everything you do and thank you for making a very triggering experience so very much easier for me. You have truly had a positive impact on me and my anxiety of medical environments.
The only thing I would reflect on (and it really is trivial) when planning the staff meals, it might be best to do it away from those fasting for surgery 😅 That was just my thoughts at the time because I was hungry. Not a reflection on my experience, to be honest it gave me a giggle at the time.
I can't thank you all enough, truly.
