"The care of my wife"

About: Urgent Community Response North Hants

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

Thank you Community Response Team

My wife fell in the early hours and although uninjured we were unable to get her standing. A 999 ambulance crew attended and stayed with us until they could contact the UCR team, explaining that if they could come out later we would not have to be taken to hospital.

Two members of the UCR team attended and carried out a thorough and reassuring check up, they also offered much advice on what we could do to help ourselves and what additional support they and other related departments could offer. It was very noticeable how they joined all of this up, the same applied to all the visits they made during the next five days, in particular each team member who came (we only saw one person twice) knew all the details of our case right down to a personal level.

After the second day they referred us to the hospital, again with completely joined up handover, however not all of the hospital service works like the UCR team and none of your efforts were recognised until we saw a doctor but their interest and care continued; they knew when my wife was discharged and kept the local surgery updated.

The treatment the UCR team and some of the hospital staff gave us considerably raised my opinion of the health service, prior to this I used to relate to my instances where things had not worked out well..............my opinion has changed.
