"Excellent Care"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Assessment and Rehab Centre Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Medical High Dependency Victoria Hospital / Radiology Victoria Hospital / Stroke

(as a relative),

We would like to thank the many people involved in our mum's care following admission late December to the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy.

From admission in A&E through to discharge from ward 42 the staff really are a credit to their respective professions.

During each step of her care she was treated with respect and kindness despite the pressures each department was under.

We were involved in each step of the process, she had a haemorrhagic bleed resulting in a stroke. Explanations were clear and easily understood and each person, despite being busy, spent time to ensure that we were updated.

Apologies we're given when, due to pressures within the department she was moved to a corridor area within Resus, whiled awaiting a bed in medical high dependency (MHDU). She was still observed by staff and she was one of the fittest patients they had at that time, the decision was understandable, these choices have to be made.

A further admission occurred on Saturday with follow up at TIA clinic Queen Margaret Hospital.

Special thanks to the following staff,

Matt, Dr Thomas, Mandy (specialist nurse) and all the other staff within A&E and radiology.

Eileen and Susan charge nurses within MHDU and all other staff.

Apologies, I have forgotten the names of the staff nurses within ward 42 directly involved in mum's care but they really made an anxious patient feel better. Their professionalism and their fun banter were just what my parents needed.

Scott the OT, who went above and beyond.

Kate Stroke Nurse Specialist, for her time, explanations and advice.

My mum would also like to thank all other staff who make up the larger team, who without them things just couldn't run as smoothly, porters, cleaning staff and kitchen staff. She loved the food, she felt it was really tasty.

Lastly but not least, the whole duty team again in early January and Dr McCauley TIA clinic for his time and patience in assessing and answering further questions yesterday.

Dear Starrt36

Thanks for taking the time to give this lovely/heart felt feedback and also for your understanding when as an Emergency Department we had to place your mum out with her cubicle to accommodate another patient. I hope your mum is now recovering and I will ensure your thanks is communicated to the wider team.

Kind Regards

Esther

Thank you for your detailed and positive feedback relating to your mum's care. We appreciate your efforts to remember everybody by name. Your story illustrates just how many people across the hospital are involved in delivering high quality stroke care. We also appreciate that you saw the efforts the team make to work with the whole family as it is also a confusing and distressing time for everybody close to the person who has had a stroke. Hearing that your mum enjoyed the food was also positive. We hope that your mum continues to build on her recovery. We will highlight your feedback at the ward huddle so that all staff on Ward 42 get to hear about it.

Regards

Aidan McGlashan on behalf of the Stroke Team Ward 42
