"Still patiently waiting..."

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford) / General surgery

(as a service user),

At initial appointment I was assured the wait time was 2-3 months and as I had another surgery planned that was major, I agreed to a PIFU on the basis, as explained, that I needed only to call to initiate the surgery (knowing the wait time).

What a mistake that was on my part, on phoning I was pushed from pillar to post. Eventually after some emails I had a call from the local clinic, they would need to see me again and an appointment would follow - but they did agree to put me on the waiting list prior to the appointment. My appointment did follow a full 6 weeks later and took longer to introduce / identify me than do any further examination. Informed again that the waiting list wasn't long and to expect a date for surgery shortly.

Well 14 months on, and a full 6 months from my last examination I am still patiently waiting with no feedback. NHS app still says average 19 weeks and last updated 22nd December....Frustrated to say the least for an operation that should take less than 15 minutes.

I am so sorry to read how long you are having to wait for surgery.

If you arer willing would you mind contacting me via our teams email address which is ekhuft.patientvoice@nhs.net, I will try to assist and get to the bottom of what is happening with your treatment and why you are having to wait so long.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Josh

Update posted by Mr H of Kent (a service user)

So finally I had a call from the waiting list team. It transpires that in fact for my operation, based on severity, the waiting list is around 1 year, not 2-3 months as advised and not 19 weeks per the information on the NHS app.

I would never have delayed from my initial referral notwithstanding my other planned treatment if I had been advised accordingly.

If I actually get my planned surgery inside 18 months it will be a miracle.

Lesson learned.
