Recently my baby had a bit of a temperature despite regular calpol. I phoned NHS 24 for advice with the GP being shut and was advised to take her straight to a&e at Forth Valley Royal. I arrived at around 2pm.
The receptionist was lovely and so patient despite the clear pressure they are under. We were triaged within 20/30 minutes and my daughter was much sicker than she appeared to be so we were sent straight through to the bed bay area to wait on a doctor. While waiting she wanted to be fed. The area we were in was very busy so I asked the nurses if there was a nursing room for me to breast feed in which there wasn’t, but they facilitated a make shift feeding room without hesitation.
When I returned from feeding her she was deteriorating very quickly. Dr Johana just happened to walk past and stopped to find out what was going on with her. She quickly identified how sick she was and rushed her through to paediatric resus taking the lead on her care and staying with her until she stabilised and could be transferred up to the children’s ward.
Dr Johana if you see this, you are everything that is right with our NHS. Your genuine care and compassion and efforts to help my baby was something we will never take for granted. You are an angel and Forth Valley Royal is an amazing place to be because of you! Thank you so much for being so vigilant, so fast acting and so caring, we will never forget you.
