I saw Mr Smillie recently after being referred because I have had a sore throat for months. I was quite anxious because of what the outcome might be and I had also got into a bit of a panic because I remembered being in certain wards in the hospital.
Mr Smillie was great, he explained everything and asked if it was ok for him to do things before he did them. He showed me the different parts of my throat on the screen which I really liked because I am autistic and have a particular interest in medical documentaries so it was interesting to see this and it was also great to meet an actual surgeon and I wish I had said that he is an amazing person to do surgery etc. Luckily my outcome wasn't serious and Mr Smillie was able to offer me an explanation and treatment.
"Explained everything"
