"Pleasant, considerate and totally professional"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

I attended Ayr Hospital Day Surgery Unit for a Cataract Operation recently.

I had been provided with an information leaflet detailing the process before my appointment but was still quite anxious when I arrived. After reception the first person I saw was Nurse Verrian who did various checks and explained what would happen during surgery. Then I was taken to another room for eye drops and given my gown etc. Nurse Helen took me into theatre and stayed with me during the whole process. In theatre Andy who was assisting Dr Varrikara explained who everyone was and their roles. Andy also explained exactly what was happening throughout the operation as did Dr Varrikara as he performed the surgery. The actual operation was completely pain free and  lasted less than twenty minutes. After a very welcome cup of coffee I was given eye drops to use at home and discharged.

I cannot thank Dr Varrikara and his team enough for the care and kindness I received. Everyone was so pleasant,  considerate and totally professional.

Thank you all.

Dear Mags k

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience of the care provided by the staff in the Day Surgery Unit within University Hospital Ayr.

I am glad to hear that you received such friendly and supportive care during your admission for cataract surgery. It’s often the small things that can make such a difference, such as providing information ahead of a procedure and then taking time to support a nervous patient on arrival. I’m glad that our staff were able to reassure you and put you at ease during your admission, resulting in a positive experience for you

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients and it will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the wider Team in the Department and in particular with Verrian, Helen, Andy and Dr Varrikara and his Team.

I do hope you are recovering well and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
