I attended Ayr Hospital Day Surgery Unit for a Cataract Operation recently.
I had been provided with an information leaflet detailing the process before my appointment but was still quite anxious when I arrived. After reception the first person I saw was Nurse Verrian who did various checks and explained what would happen during surgery. Then I was taken to another room for eye drops and given my gown etc. Nurse Helen took me into theatre and stayed with me during the whole process. In theatre Andy who was assisting Dr Varrikara explained who everyone was and their roles. Andy also explained exactly what was happening throughout the operation as did Dr Varrikara as he performed the surgery. The actual operation was completely pain free and lasted less than twenty minutes. After a very welcome cup of coffee I was given eye drops to use at home and discharged.
I cannot thank Dr Varrikara and his team enough for the care and kindness I received. Everyone was so pleasant, considerate and totally professional.
Thank you all.
