I would like to say thank you to the Cataract services in Magherafelt for their care looking after my Father-in-Law.
Over the past year he has had both cataracts operated on and this has completely changed his life. He is now able to manage safely in his own home, he can drive and in his 80s has returned to his job.
Cataract surgery is not only about fixing his eyesight - it has given him back his life.
I do wish to mention both Laura and Nora at the appointment. When we arrived they were dealing with an emergency (not related to the cataract clinic) - they assessed and managed the patient and then explained to the waiting room that there would be a delay. Everyone understood and I know it took courage for the nurse to address the room but it was an important action - we were kept informed and understood they were working hard to make up any delays with appointments.
The Cataract surgery has been a game changer and I want to highlight the importance of this service - particularly to the older people in society.
On leaving his final appointment he said he honestly feels like they have given him his life back, and I would like those who work in the service to know they are making a huge difference to people's lives
"Cataract surgery is a game changer"
