Sliced my nose almost clean off in a hang gliding crash last year. As far as I recall, there wasn't much holding it on when I was airlifted to hospital.
To my amazement, when I awoke the next morning in Exeter it had been reattached and faithfully restored to its original shape.
Please pass on my immense gratitude to the maxillofacial team, the Otter ward and especially the 5 surgeons named on my discharge form - Drs Katwa, Keates, Esson, Adams and Casipe - who toiled through the night over the bank holiday weekend to put me back together. What they did is nothing short of magic and I am thankful every day.
2 months later, I was fit to fly again. First day back in the saddle, I broke a longstanding record and I've subsequently been reselected for the British hang gliding team.
Happy New Year!
