"Left on bedpan for more than 40 mins"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as a relative),

Mum had a pelvic fracture and could not go to loo unaided. Buzzed for a bedpan which was brought. She buzzed for someone to take it away - no-one came for 40 minutes.

During that time she yelled and yelled for help, the bedpan was cutting into her skin. 2 weeks later she still has terrible bruising and marks. I am appalled.

This is bound to happen when there are single rooms - should go back to a ward of 4, at least nurses and doctors wander past and can see if someone is in distress.

Dear Debsw43

Thank you for getting in contact with us to share your concerns regarding your mother's recent experience of nursing care following a pelvic fracture.

I am so sorry that she had such a long delay awaiting attention from staff and for the distress and discomfort she has experienced at that time and subsequently as a result. This is not the standard of care we expect for our patients.

If you could please contact our complaints department ggc.complaints@nhs.scot and provide your mother's personal details, we can establish which ward she was treated in, investigate your concerns and provide a more detailed response.

Kind regards

Morag Busby, Lead Nurse Trauma and Orthopaedics
