Having had extremely painful, protruding and very heavily bleeding what was thought to be haemorrhoids, I was referred urgently by two GPs for their treatment.
Subsequently I had a colonoscopy which confirmed this but was then put on a normal waiting list just for another consultation. I had to be proactive and, thankfully, Ms Greig at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, expedited an immediate consultation with the Clinical Lead Consultant.
Mr Cruickshank suspected my problem was a cancerous skin tag and his immediate actions were remarkable. I received the very best treatment at the Victoria Hospital and the Western General Hospital with my Consultant, Dr MacNair and colorectal nurse Ms McFarlane.
The Western General teams at Ward 3 and Radiography were absolutely outstanding. Each one met and responded immediately and expertly to all my needs throughout my clinics, meetings, scans and treatment. It was a arduous and excruciatingly painful at times journey but these teams were totally magnificent, going above and beyond all the time. My Consultant called me to inform me of my all clear result, giving me and also my family the best Christmas I could ever have.
I am so utterly grateful to them all.
