"My battle with cancer"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Clinical haematology Crosshouse Hospital / Clinical Oncology

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed towards the end of last year, with follicular lymphoma cancer and in January this year, I found out it was worse than my cancer specialist thought. I had a swollen spleen and fractured t10 vertebrae due pressure on my spine from lymphoma. I started my chemotherapy in ward 5e and they couldn't be more helpful in my battle with follicular lymphoma. I had 17 cm mass of lymphomas through my body from my face and neck, chest, stomach and groin.

Their help in my six chemotherapy cycles, which I finished in July this year, had shrunk to 6 cm in my stomach. Everywhere else was clear of lymphomas. I started maintenance therapy with rituximab in the following month, and it started shrinking after two maintenance treatments. So, as I look to the future, I know I will get it to remission but could never have so done without all nurses and doctors of ward 5e and ward 3a, where I see my cancer specialist. They all looked after me for the last year and most importantly, they have given me my life back when I didn't know what the future holds. Now I take one day at time. Thank you all at ward 3a and most importantly, ward 5e, where I was, and continue to be treated.

Dear woodpeckersm96

Thank you for taking the time to leave such kind words. I am really pleased to hear that you have had a positive experience and that your treatment is working well. I'm sure the haematology team will be delighted to receive this feedback, and it will be so encouraging for them to know that you felt so well supported by them and they have made a difference, what a lovely way to end the year.

Please accept my very best wishes for your ongoing treatment, and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge our team. Wishing you all the best for 2025.

Tracy
