"Mixed experiences with camglen community maternity"

About: Camglen Community Maternity

(as a service user),

I had mixed experiences with camglen community maternity. I found the team members to be friendly and polite.

When I was a patient with them, there was staff sickness which could not be helped, however this impacted continuity of my care. For example, the main midwife involved in my care made a referral to another service on my behalf. She was off sick and I never heard from the service to which I was referred. When I followed this up myself with the other midwives several times, I then was informed they would need to do a re-referral because the initial one never went through. This led to an increased waiting time which was particularly unhelpful due to the time limited nature of pregnancy.

I also found there to be quite a few basic issues which caused unecessary stress. For example, there is no administrative support at reception and therefore a phone number is provided to call. However, there was little to no phone reception in the area, which was confirmed by a staff member to me, so I could not make a phone call without going outside the building, which really defeats the purpose. Overall, I found the team to be friendly, well-intentioned but inconsistent and chaotic.

Dear Petunia2024,

I am sorry to hear that you had a mixed experience during your pregnancy. I will feed your reflections back to the Camglen Midwifery team. I can only apologise that your initial referral was not received by the other service and this caused delay in your care.

We do aim to provide continuity of care for our patients, unfortunately as you have said this was not the case in your pregnancy journey due to sickness absence of your named midwife, your care should have been picked up with her buddy midwife.

I will speak to the Team Leader and clarify the booking in process at the Health Centre.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss further.

Best Wishes

Heather Weir
