My 92 year old father was accepted by the Hospital at Home team after the GP suspected a chest infection. (He had been waiting since October for an appointment with the Respiratory Clinic after a referral by the GP who could hear ‘crackling’ in his lungs)
We cannot praise the HaH team highly enough.
On the first visit they explained clearly how they worked and carried out a full examination, taking blood and other samples.
Within two hours a nurse was back to confirm there was a chest infection and started IV fluids and antibiotics.
Also within a few hours dad had a visit from a physiotherapist from the team who assessed him and very quickly provided the appropriate equipment and excellent advice.
As a family we were kept fully informed every day when a member of the team visited to administer the fluids and antibiotics.
The team also arranged a CT scan appointment which did give us the diagnosis of Pulmonary Fibrosis. This again was clearly explained and medications recommended.
This HaH team saved an old man with hearing and memory issues from being admitted to hospital which would have caused him great stress and anxiety.
We are extremely grateful for the HaH referral and for the dedication of the staff and cannot praise the service received high enough - it made a huge difference to my dad.
"We cannot praise the team highly enough"
