I would like to thank the Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley who were great when my father became unwell over the Christmas period and had to be admitted to hospital.
I am working in healthcare, so I’m acutely aware of the pressures the NHS is under. We hear about it every day, but as a daughter it was reassuring that the service he received was wonderful and cannot be faulted. It was strange to be at the receiving end of the NHS and I was very proud of my colleagues.
It makes you proud to work for the NHS, especially as it was over public holidays and you know that services will be stretched and reduced staffing wise.
I would like to thank certain professions in particular:
Scottish Ambulance Service:
From the reassuring voice of Kelly who answered the phone when I dialled 999 and talked me through a list of things to ask him to do to assess the situation and his condition.
Ross and Adam, 2 Paramedics from the Ambulance service who arrived quickly at the house within 20 mins of my phone call.
I cannot thank them enough for their care, thoroughness, professionalism and were very thorough in their assessment of his condition completing ECGs and monitoring BP and Sat levels. I would also like to thank Adam who waited in A+E with us and until my father saw a Triage Nurse. He kept me calm by talking to us and I really appreciate that at a stressful time.
A and E:
I would like to thank Caitlyn, a Triage nurse in A+E, Heather, a Dr who was on call that day, and was very thorough in her assessment of my father and kept us both updated and Eilidh Charge Nurse.
Portering Services:
A special thanks to Robert, a porter who took my dad up to the Acute Medical Unit. He was kind, courteous and helpful and explained the layout of the hospital to me. He also had a lovely manner and impressed me.
Acute Medical Unit / HASU/ Ward 6
My dad spent 1 day in the AMU before being transferred to a HASU / Ward 6 bed where he underwent ongoing investigations. The Medical and nursing staff were excellent and kept me updated with what was happening during his stay. The medical staff kept me up to date with what was happening and results of tests and I have high praise for their communication especially Dr Burns on his 1st day in AMU.
The nurses (too many to mention) were fantastic. Nothing was ever a bother and you felt welcomed when entering the ward. They helped make a very stressful and worrying time so much easier. The Grinch at the entrance to the AMU made me smile when entering!
I honestly cannot praise them enough for their caring and compassionate nature. The team in both wards worked exceptionally hard and delivered high quality care.
My final thanks and it’s a very BIG “thank you” goes to Dr McManus who was his Consultant and I once had the pleasure of working with in another hospital. Her professionalism, diligence, communication skills and ability to persuade my father to stay in hospital for further investigations in a “non jargon” and down to earth way was excellent. She succeeded where I failed; She was honest, empathetic, down to earth and very approachable and my father was very impressed with her.
On behalf of my father and I, we would like to thank everyone involved in his care and wish everyone a very happy and healthy 2025.
