Recently in December, I was taken ill at our hotel. I was taken by ambulance and a lovely crew to ninewells hospital in Dundee and transferred to resus.
The staff there were professional but understanding, and after processing taken to ICU. During my three day stay there, the doctors and staff were incredible showing just how dedicated professional people can be and every time even during extremely worrying episodes, they displayed a spirit of team work seldom seen nowadays.
However one man for me stood out and his name is Easow, who was assigned to look after me. He displayed a spirit of dedication in his work with me that gave me hope and comfort to ease me out of what I feared and that was how I was to see a way out of my worsening infectious virus.
When I panicked he was there to encourage, when I despaired he was there to encourage, when my battered and bloodied arms needed new or replacement venflons, his skill and patient work put me at ease. It didn't matter the state of some of his tasks, he carried them out with wit and aplomb, always patiently explaining everything he was about to do.
Even when I panicked and got myself into some particularly tearful situations, it was nothing for him to put an arm on my shoulder and reassure me that everything was going to be ok.
Easow is the best that the NHS produces as a caring professional nurse and ninewells should be very proud to have him in ICU. He gave me hope where there was none, and a path to follow to regain my health.
God bless you my friend.
