"Lack of empathy shown"

About: Maternity care / Maternity Out Patient Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter, attended GP due to severe sickness at 11 weeks pregnant. Her ketones at GP were off the scale, she has lost 10 lbs plus in weight. She was referred to maternity assessment at Queen Elizabeth maternity Glasgow.

Her ketones showed + of ketones so was told there’s nothing we can do you don’t meet the protocol. If the uncaring staff member had looked at and listened to her patient she would have realised the patient would benefit from some iv fluids.

What was upsetting was the unkind delivery of communication by a them. I’m disgusted by the lack of empathy shown and lack of staff looking at the full picture of their patients. Shameful.

I felt my daughter’s treatment was disgraceful and unprofessional.

Dear lynxrw44,

I am sorry to read of your daughters treatment at Maternity assessment. We aim to provide person centred compassionate care. If she would like to contact me on the details below I would be happy to review and discuss further.

Kind Regards,

Tracy Orr

Thankyou but no she will no longer engage with the department. She will continue to suffer at home. As I stated she is a nurse herself and understands how to show care and compassion something that was lacking. But Thankyou for taking the time to respond. I am utterly disgusted by her treatment, I have retired from the very profession. As I always said it’s how the woman is feeling overall, nausea weight loss, drastic in such a short space of time. It’s not all about ketosis but your staff were rigid and seem hide behind protocol. It feels like there is no consideration for the holistic approach to care.
