"The dedication of my therapist was instrumental in my progress"

About: Astley Ainslie Hospital / Speech and Language Therapy

(as a service user),

I had been fed liquid food by tube for 7 weeks. The therapy was designed to get me on to solid food by mouth.

The regime was concentrated - an hour each day at lunchtime. In a little over 2 weeks, I progressed from pureed food to choosing from the normal menu - albeit the moist meals.

The tube was removed and led to my discharge.

The dedication of my therapist, Vicky, was instrumental in my progress. Her sometimes bold encouragement was invaluable.

Without that, I'm sure I would have been on a longer lasting care for eating.

Dear charlierb74

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback via Care Opinion.

I am delighted to read how encouraging Vicky has been and that she was able to help you get on to normal foods. I am sure you put a lot of work in yourself to make this progress, but I am really pleased she was able to support you through it.

I will pass on your positive feedback to Vicky and the team.

Thank you again and take care

Louise

Dear charlierb74,

Thank you so much for sharing your story, and for your very positive feedback. As Louise has reflected, so much of your progress and success was down to your own hard work and tenacity, but I'm very happy that I could help. It was a privilege to see the progress you made.

Very best wishes,

Vicky
