I mid-September I gave birth to our baby boy. I was induced in the evening and things quickly progressed to needing to go to emergency theatre on the morning of the next day.
Everyone I encountered during this scary time was amazing. Special thanks must go to Gillian the midwife on labour ward who was brilliant with encouragement and hand holding. When I went to theatre there was another emergency happening at the same time so there was alot of people figuring out the best way to proceed. Gillian was a constant by my side which was very reassuring, I felt she had my back at all times. Caitlin, student midwife, thanks for all your encouragement - you're going to be an amazing midwife and have a brilliant mentor.
Another special mention must go to the anaesthetist Jamie. When I was told I was going to theatre, I was very anxious. I was particularly anxious about getting a spinal anaesthetic. Jamie explained everything very well and was incredibly reassuring.
I'm quite sure my eyes were shut the full time in theatre so I don't even think I can recall what he looks like. But Jamie's voice was the most reassuring voice I think I've ever encountered. It felt like the theatre was quite busy and loud with everyone doing what they needed to do but Jamie provided constant calm reassurance in my ear which looking back was very much needed - you're definitely in the right job!
Thanks so much to everyone involved in myself and our boy's care. Hope all have a lovely Christmas and can have some time off.
