"Soft tissue contraction could have been prevented"

About: Occupational Therapy / Occupational Therapy - Outpatient Hand Service Perth Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I originally injured my finger in August and went to A&E after a call to NHS 24.  After xray i was advised i had a minor break but that it would be fine.

Visiting my GP a couple of weeks later i commented my finger now seemed to be more disfigured.  I was really impressed he got me a slot at A&E later that day.  I was a bit disappointed that the staff who saw me then seemed to think that the kink in my finger was a result of the soft tissue contraction that could have been prevented when i first went to A&E.

I got great service over the next few weeks.  Unfortunately this has not been able to rectify the damage.   A kinked finger is not a big deal and the staff member I saw was great but perhaps the original doctor might learn.

Dear Starjb65

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm pleased to hear that you were happy with your Hand Therapy intervention following your finger injury. However, I apologise that you were not referred to our service earlier and that you have a soft tissue contracture resulting in a kinked finger. I will share your experience at our next team meeting. Thank you once again for sharing your story.
