"I feel my wife is being talked down to"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Therapies North Devon District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a carer),

My Wife has recently had a knee replacement and is progressing very well (in my opinion). However, I feel the physiotherapist she has is not using the full medical history for my wife.

The physio is saying that she is not progressing because of some angle in her knee movement. I and other family members can see the improvement but she is being talked down to (my opinion again).

My wife has vertebrae problems and requires a walker, I would have thought an assessment of my wife prior to the knee replacement op would have given the physio a better insight as to how well my wife is doing. She has left the hospital feeling very down and deflated.

I feel you must try harder to encourage .

Thank you for taking the time to feedback about the Physiotherapy Service that your wife received and the points for improvement. I am sorry to know that you feel your wife has been talked down to. Patients listed for a Knee replacement are offered a pre operation telephone call with the Therapy team, I hope that this did take place.

I will be talking to the team, to encourage patients is very important.

It is good to know that you and your family can see that your wife is improving.
