"A privilege to have a second chance at life"

About: Community Services / Rotherham Early Intervention

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

A journey it has been, my life. I fell, into deep darkness, for quite some time. My challenge with mental illness at a young age pushed me to drug abuse which then turned me homeless years later. I was homeless for roughly 18 months, living in my car. I was very unclean and in unsuitable living conditions. During my time as homeless, I struggled with alcohol addiction, anger issues and of course mental illness.

I was detained at my mothers house upon arrival back home, and brought into care at a mental health hospital. My battle against my mental illness began.

And then I met Rachel, a bright and shining star which I believed was God sent, for sure. In a time of desperate crisis, and powerful thoughts of suicide, I met an angel, she was a nurse. We spoke about everything, such a caring a loving human, one of the kindest human beings I had ever met.

I can’t tell you how much it meant to me to have someone like Rachel in my corner. Throughout ever battle, knowing I was in her care always kept me thinking positively, able to get up each morning to be able to turn into work. No sick days, focused and ready. It was one of my missions, to able to get back to work, a mission accomplished. Another achievement, as an engineer, was to work as an aerospace engineer, success. I’ve come so far, now in a very safe place, I feel free at last. No dark thoughts of evil, no more mistakes. Always looking up.

I thank you Rachel, a friend I have made along the way, someone who I will look back on and thank God for. A big thank you to her and the intervention team for the work they do. A privilege to have a second chance at life, I can’t thank you enough.

God bless, all the best, thanks again,

Thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback. It is absolutely humbling to read about your journey and I can't imagine how dark the world has been for you at times.

It is such a privilege for the early intervention team to support people when they are so unwell and often can't see any light or way forward. I am so pleased you found benefit from this and I know how difficult it probably was for you to trust in Rachel and the team. Thank you for this.

It delights me to read how well you are doing and how you have literally smashed your missions and accomplished soo much. Your positivity will have helped your recovery so much.

Thank you again and all the best for your continued recovery in your "second chance" of life.

This feedback is amazing, thankyou so much for providing this. It meant so much to Rachel and will be shared with the team.

We are so pleased that you have made an excellent recovery and a majority of that work came from yourself, so be proud.

I wish you well on your ongoing recovery journey. All the best.
