"The service in radiotherapy is superb"

About: Cancer Services / Radiotherapy

(as the patient),

Everything here in Radiotherapy is absolutely superb. The staff team are all great. I haven’t met anyone who is not both professional and able. They answer any questions you might have. I am a great believer in telling people how it is and I appreciate everything to be that way. Staff are always full of smiles, greetings are very welcoming and they know you by your first name.

The only problem I have found is with car parking. This is very difficult and you have to leave plenty time to queue up for a space. However, there is the Maggi Centre but unfortunately my observation is that some people park there and then walk off into the woods. Access there is completely open and this should not happen in my opinion.

Appointments here are extremely well organised and I know exactly what time to come in and what time I will leave. The organisation here is of the highest order.

I live in Fife and I find the treatment on the NHS is extraordinary. My GP actually sends me text messages to make sure I arrive when I should etc. I find the communication in the NHS in Scotland is generally better than south of the border.

Responsibility to patients is totally different in Scotland - I cannot fault it.

Many thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on your patient experience when attending our Ninewells site, which we welcome and appreciate.

Attending hospital can be an anxious time and we thank you for acknowledging the exemplary treatment you have received.

Demand for parking at Ninewells is high and we recognise that demand exceeds our parking capacity.

We actively encourage those who live locally and who are able, to access public transport or to be dropped off by a friend or relative wherever possible, in order to reduce demand for parking, but we also acknowledge that many of our patients are travelling from further afield and the use of public transport may not be appropriate.

We are currently reviewing the allocation of parking across the Ninewells site to support improved access for our patients and visitors and we value your feedback, which will be captured as part of that review.

Regards

Dear Scruffy3, thank you for taking the time to feedback your experience of our Radiotherapy Department. My name is Bob, one of the Support Workers who would have welcomed you to our department.

I must say that the enthusiasm in which you describe the professionalism of our Therapeutic Radiographers will be received well by them and generate just that little bit more motivation to provide such a service. It also seems that our appointment process works well for you which is pleasing to hear

Car parking is an ongoing issue which our Head of Department, Damian Parr continues to take to management meeting. It is, indeed though, a sad state of affairs where people

selfishly take up parking spaces and head into the woods for walks. Thankfully, Maggie’s are very welcoming of our patients who cannot get parked.

Overall, it would appear that the NHS service provided to you in our area is very satisfactory, and long may that continue.

On behalf of everyone here, I hope you benefit from your treatments and wish you well for the future.

Kind regards... Bob
