My husband first approached RDASH as he was so worried about my mental health, he didnt know who to turn to.
They came to the house, to talk.
If it wasn't for him, i dont know what would have happened. Slowly over months i built up a relationship with one of their team. We talked and talked about how i was feeling and what my fears were. I started to open up and felt like i could trust her with all the stuff that was bubbling up inside my head. I told her about the grief i was dealing with from losing 8 family members within the last 5 years and the last one, who was my younger sister who had died of covid.
I was still grieving from losing the first one ( my mother in law) who was like a second mum) Every family death, every funeral all that grief, all piling up on top of each other, all inside my head. All that regression after each funeral. Never fully healing. All those questions..why? How? I started to wonder who was gonna be next, then Covid came.
My younger sister had spina bifida and a breathing condition. Covid took her so quickly. It was a huge shock and the final straw.
I had started to talk out loud to myself. I was having shouting episodes and behaving oddly.
I wasnt able to process what was happening.
The early intervention team ( looking back) were amazing. I decided to take the medication offered to help calm me down and help clear my head, so that i was able to see clearly again. I took it for a couple of years and with all the therapy, walks out and support strategies, i made it through the other side.
The reduction in medication was monitored and i felt able to let it go.
I am my normal self now, thanks to all the support i received from the early intervention team and from one member of the team in particular ( Helen)
I am emotionally stronger now, then before and l am able to look back and remember the happy times i spent with my family members that aren't here anymore.
I wouldn't have been able to get myself well again, without the early intervention team. They are amazing and do wonderful work. I owe them all a huge thank you and in particular Helen.
