My GP referred me 8 weeks ago under the urgent referral system, to the surgeons at Wishaw hospital. I am in pain after every meal and outwith meal times too, mainly being awakened during the night in pain with nausea and vomiting.
The legal wait time guarantee in Scotland is supposedly 12 weeks (18 weeks including diagnostics etc) from referral to treatment. The urgent referral is supposedly 6 weeks!
Just been told I have a 42 week wait just to see a surgeon, that doesn't include the wait time for the actual surgery!
Of course I can burden the NHS and frequent A&E after every meal I eat, however, considering I had a fall 3 months ago, suffered cervical injuries and still have not heard from a single professional at Wishaw hospital for treatment or advice (and yes, my MRI demonstrates I have injuries to my cervical spine) I don't hold out much hope of having my gallbladder removed before it becomes an extreme emergency.
Seems you have to fight for health care at this hospital.
May the odds forever be in your favour.
