"Got told over the phone with no explanation"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Dermatology (Skin Conditions)

(as a relative),

My mum had a mole removed from here head a few weeks ago and recently got call from hospital to say that she had skin cancer and someone will be in touch.

I am very annoyed due to mums age and mind that she got told over the phone and nothing explained except that someone will be in touch and if no word in 2 weeks call the Dr. I  find this unacceptable way to let someone know that they have skin cancer

Good Morning,

I am very sorry you and your mother have been distressed by the communication from the Dermatology Department. It sounds like this has not been handled correctly and this has caused understandable worry for your family.

We always aim to patients are kept informed and supported, and this did not happen in your mother case. I will discuss your feedback with the team to ensure we improve our communication with patients in the future to stop this happening again.

If you would like me to look further into the details of your mothers experience please contact me at ciorstan.blake@nhs.scot with her details and we can take this forward.

Thank you for your feedback

Kind Regards

Ciorstan Blake
